Another alien invasion film. I don't know what Rob has against planets.
This one is slightly different because the protagonists are big-eyed nematode-looking things that fly? float? swim? through their atmosphere. Oh, yes, that's right. Humans are the invaders here. Which makes this about the 12th thing Avatar has ripped off.
I don't remember when this movie came out or how well it did in theaters. It's got a huge amount of voice talent but the CGI is pretty crappy. Well, that's not really fair. The CGI of the humans is crappy, everything else is okay. Seriously, only the minimum amount of effort was put in to making the humans distinguishable from each other. Maybe it was done on purpose, like from the aliens' point of view. I don't know. All I knew was that one squarehead would talk and then another one would.
Mala (Evan Rachel Wood) is a typical rebellious teen who would rather skip school to race her friend Sen (Justin Long). She was always getting into trouble until the day invaders from another planet came to her village and started abducting people, including her father (Dennis Quaid). She manages to get one of their ships to crash but the being inside can't survive on her atmosphere. Fortunately, he came with a robot (David Cross) who tells her how to make an oxygen tent. The being is a human named Lt. Stanton (Luke Wilson) who was sent on a scouting mission. As thanks for saving his life, he takes Mala to the main ship to help her find her father. Unfortunately, he finds that General Hemmer (Brian Cox) plans to terraform her planet, changing the atmosphere to an oxygenated one, killing the entire flora and fauna of the world. Now both races must fight for survival.
