St. Trinian's (2007)

This was a really cute film.  One of the ones that makes me wish I had seen it when I was younger.  Of course, it wasn't actually around when I was younger.

That's depressing.

Anyway, movie is super cute.  Annabelle (Talulah Riley) is dumped by her father (Rupert Everett) at St. Trinian's, a run-down boarding school run by his sister (also Rupert Everett).  The teachers are all alcoholics and the students are pint-sized terrors guided by Kelly (Gemma Aterton), the Head Girl.  The school is actually in a world of trouble itself.  It's half a million pounds in debt, about to be foreclosed upon, and the new Minister of Education (Colin Firth) has decided to make an example of it.  All the cliques must band together to steal Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring in order to save their school.

The whole fish-out-of-water high school movie has been done several times, to varying degrees of success but, I'm pleased to say, this one makes the grade (ha!).  It's funny, it's clever, and it's got a bitchin' soundtrack.  What more can you ask for?
